Cinnamon Rolls

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 8 years now and we hardly ever have fights or arguments. I'm not say that to brag, but it's true. For the most part we get along really well. So, this morning when we got into an argument about the dumbest thing, i found it rather funny. We were fighting because I was making cinnamon rolls from a can and was arranging them in a small round cake pan. He came down and was like, no these need to go on a cookie sheet. We went back and forth about what pan to use, both really set on being right. Dumb right?

Normally when this happens, we would each be angry for a little while and just have zero interaction with each-other until we cool off or forget about it. This time, however, instead of getting mad. I just sat back and observed my reaction and just thought about how silly it was. I didn't want to waste precious time being upset. Mind you, I'm normally an extremely sensitive person and am afraid of confrontation and have been since I was really young. If someone yells at me I get really emotional.

In that moment I felt a lot of growth in myself as I sat there  and chuckled about the situation. I would normally be very hurt by how angry he got towards me, but not this time. I feel like people in relationships, especially long term relationships waste so much precious time being upset with one another or arguing with each-other. It's not always about being right. Sometimes it's just about accepting the fact that we can agree to disagree.

I'm coming to realize that two completley different people are going to have conflicting views and opinions on many things. There's no way they can agree on everything. If we can just accept this and accept our differences when can move on past silly arguments and not spend time being upset or even separate because of them.

All this to say I'm proud of growth.

  1. This is so true! You should still consider sharing how it made you feel because your feelings are valid. If he knows it hurt you and your opinion should be valued he might take a different approach next time he feels right.Staying silent might stop an argument but not the hurt. Bottom line communicate, communicate, communicate! Love you.
