April 13: April Blogging Challange
You walk into your closet and find a mysterious box. What happens next?
It was a rainy, cloudy day. I was confided to my bedroom due to the fact that I hate rain. I lay in my bed listening to the rain clatter like a stampede of buffalo. I begin to hear a sound that didn't sound like rain at all. It sounded like singing. It sounded like a glorious and angelic song. I stood up slowly to inspect where this noise could possibly be coming from. It grew louder and louder as I approached my closet. I opened my closet apprehensively and when I did I saw a mysterious golden box. The joyful noise seemed to be coming from inside the box. As I opened the box a light so bright it was blinding shown out. Suddenly like a vacuum I begin to be sucked inside the box. I fell for what felt like minutes. Then i hit a a rough gravely ground. I stood and dusted myself off and begun to examine my surroundings. I was in what appeared to be a desert. All I could see were cactuses and tumbleweeds around for miles.
I walked and walked but could not find a soul. In the distance I saw what appeared to be skeletal remains of a person, although I prayed it were a mirage. As I got closer I discovered my fears were confirmed.
"You." I heard a voice call from behind me.
"Huh?" I said as I snapped around .
In front of me stood a man clothed in a small loin cloth that was tattered and torn. His hair was overgrown and fuzzy. He was thin and frail. In his arms he held a small child not even 2.
"Have you come to lift the curse?" He asked
"Curse? I'm sorry, but where am I ?" I replied
"You're in Texas. This land has been cursed, by a witch. It hasn't rained in nearly a year. Everything's dried up and dead. Those that could get out, left. Those who stayed either died or got by on what little water we could salvage. Why else would you be here if not to lift the curse?"
"But Texas is my home, and there are lush green trees everywhere and flowers and parks and lots of people. This isn't possible." I demanded
"You see without water, nothing can grow. To the Earth, rain is everything."
To be continued
